Small scale effects in the observable power spectrum at large angular scales

چکیده

In this paper we show how effects from small scales can enter the angular-redshift power spectrum $C_\ell(z,z')$. particular, that spectroscopic surveys with high redshift resolution are already affected on large angular scales, i.e. at low multipoles, by features scales. When considering resolution, it is therefore important to account for non-linearities relevant even multipoles. This may also motivate use of correlation function in relatively wide bins, which not instead spectrum. The extent small-scale become visible more bin auto-correlations than cross-correlations, quantified detail.

Planck Scale Effects and the Suppression of Power on the Large Scales in the Primordial Spectrum

The enormous red-shifting of the modes during the inflationary epoch suggests that physics at the very high energy scales may modify the primordial perturbation spectrum. Therefore, the measurements of the anisotropies in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) could provide us with clues to understanding physics beyond the Planck scale. In this proceeding, we study the Planck scale effects on th...

Turbulence Effects at Small Scales

It is most natural to assume that mysterious Small Ionized and Neutral Structures (SINS) in diffuse ISM arise from turbulence. There are two obvious problem with such an explanation, however. First of all, it is generally believed that at the small scales turbulence should be damped. Second, turbulence with Kolmogorov spectrum cannot be the responsible for the SINS. We consider, however, effect...

The matter power spectrum at small scales: an estimate from the Lyα forest optical depth

We measure the matter power spectrum on small scales from 31 Lyα spectra spanning the redshift range of 1.6-3.6. The optical depth, τ , for Lyα absorption of the intergalactic medium is obtained from the flux using the inversion method of Nusser & Haehnelt (1999). The optical depth is converted to density by using a simple power law relation, τ ∝ (1 + δ)α. The non-linear 1D power spectrum of th...

Strong Clustering of Faint Galaxies at Small Angular Scales

The 2-point angular correlation function of galaxies, ω(θ) , has been computed on equatorial fields observed with the CTIO 4m prime focus, within a total area of 2.31 deg. In the magnitude range 19 ≤ mR ≤ 21.5, corresponding to < z >≈ 0.35, we find an excess of power in ω(θ) at scales 2 ≤ θ ≤ 6 over what would be expected from an extrapolation of ω(θ) measured at larger θ. The significance of t...

Degree Angular Scale Interferometer First Results: a Measurement of the Cosmic Microwave Background Angular Power Spectrum

We present measurements of anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) from the first season of observations with the Degree Angular Scale Interferometer (DASI). The instrument was deployed at the South Pole in the austral summer 1999–2000, and we made observations throughout the following austral winter. We present a measurement of the CMB angular power spectrum in the range 100 < l < ...
